From the Pacific to the Atlantic Everyday Canada, one community at a time

Editorial Policy

How we research, write, disclose and correct.

Coast to Coast Ledger exists to publish clear, useful and original information about everyday life in Canadian communities. This policy explains how we work so that readers can judge our content for themselves.

Last Updated:

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions at Coast to Coast Ledger, including what we cover, how we cover it and what we recommend, are based on usefulness to readers. Businesses, organizations and advertisers cannot pay to influence editorial content, buy positive coverage or review content before publication.

We are an independent publication. We are not affiliated with any government agency, tourism board, tour operator or travel booking service, and nothing on this website should be read as an official statement by any of those bodies.

Research standards

We aim for accuracy in everything we publish. When researching a story we:

  • Use official and primary sources where possible, such as municipal websites, park agencies, transit operators, cultural institutions and the organizations that run the places we describe.
  • Cross-check facts that readers are likely to rely on, such as locations, seasonal patterns and rules for public spaces.
  • Avoid exaggerated claims and superlatives we cannot support, such as describing somewhere as “the best” without context.
  • Write about communities respectfully, recognizing that they are places where people live and work.

Local details such as opening hours, prices, events, transportation schedules, weather and availability change frequently. Our articles describe places in general terms and encourage readers to confirm important details with the relevant business or official source.

Sources

Where a specific fact depends on an outside source, we rely on reputable organizations and, where helpful, link to them so readers can check current information. We do not copy text from other publications. Quotations, if used, are attributed and kept brief.

Photography is sourced from licensed libraries, currently Pexels under the Pexels License. Photographs are chosen to illustrate the places and themes described; captions and alternative text describe what is shown.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and openly. If you believe something we have published is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, please contact us at support@coasttocoastledger.org or use the contact form, selecting “Correction”.

Please include the page address and the specific detail in question. We review every request. Where we make a substantive correction to an article, we update the content and may add a note describing the change. Minor edits, such as typographical fixes, may be made without a note.

Affiliate disclosure

At the time of this update, Coast to Coast Ledger does not use affiliate links. If we introduce affiliate links in the future, meaning links that may earn us a commission when a reader makes a purchase, we will disclose this clearly on the relevant page, near the links themselves, and update this policy. Affiliate relationships will not determine what we recommend.

Advertising

We may display advertising in the future to support the publication. Advertising will be clearly distinguishable from editorial content. Advertisers do not influence our editorial decisions. Any advertising or measurement technologies will be used in line with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, including consent requirements.

AI-assisted content policy

We may use artificial intelligence tools to assist with parts of our work, such as organizing research, drafting outlines or text, editing for clarity and checking consistency. When we do:

  • A person is responsible for every piece of content we publish and reviews AI-assisted material for accuracy, tone and originality before publication.
  • Facts in AI-assisted drafts are checked against reliable sources, because AI tools can produce errors.
  • We do not use AI to invent people, quotes, reviews, testimonials, experiences or statistics.
  • We do not use AI-generated images to depict real places as if they were photographs.

Our standards for accuracy, independence and corrections apply equally to all content, however it was produced.

Bylines

Articles are currently published under the byline “Coast to Coast Ledger editorial team”. We do not create fictional writer personas or biographies.

Reader feedback

We welcome feedback, story suggestions and questions about our content. Suggestions are considered on editorial merit, and we do not accept payment in exchange for coverage. Contact us at support@coasttocoastledger.org or through our contact page.
